With those words in mind and heart UCAN (United Churches of Akeley and Nevis) was established in 2008. First Lutheran, St. John's Lutheran and the Methodist Churches of Akeley, MN, Bethany Lutheran Church, Nevis, MN, and White Oak Bible Chapel, Chamberlin, MN, came together to assist individuals and families in time of crisis and to provide emergency assistance.

UCAN assists families or individuals at times by providing fuel for vehicles to apply for a job or travel to the doctor. As volunteers our joy comes when a job is found, a person decides to go to school or we can act as an advocate when financial problems arise.

UCAN services are available on Tuesday mornings at First Lutheran Church, Akeley, MN. All volunteers work as trained intake and assistance workers on a rotational basis. We look forward and encourage new persons to join the volunteer team of UCAN. The personal rewards are beyond simple words.
